Finding the perfect balance between comfortable cushioning, responsiveness, and impact protection is the goal for nearly every running shoe. A newcomer to the choices at Eastbay for those runners looking for the perfect match to your feet, comes from On Running.
On uses a patented cushioning system called CloudTec. The design is engineered to provide both cushioning on impact and speed on push-off. According to On, nearly two thirds of all runners suffer minor or major injuries that cause them to stop running, either temporarily or permanently. The design of the On running shoes is aimed to take the pain out of running by absorbing both the vertical and horizontal impact, the latter of which is often overlooked by traditional running shoes.
The circular design of the On CloudTec cushioning is engineered so that, as the foot hits the ground with forward momentum, the CloudTec™ element folds back, allowing the foot to glide to a softer halt. After the element is compressed by the weight of the runner, it locks together and becomes firm and ready for the push-off. The result of this innovative cushioning system according to On, is reduced pain, slower fatigue and subsequently faster runners with longer endurance.
A handful of colorways are now available, all of which feature the CloudTec cushioning system, breathable mesh upper, and 3M detailing on the heel aimed at keeping you safe on those late night runs.

Entertainer Swizz Beats has been helping Reebok campaign the return of one of their most popular sneaker designs of all time, the Kamikaze. “Reebok is back” has been the slogan used for the Reebok Kamikaze III that has been creating a buzz with sneakerheads over the past couple months.
The new version of the Kamikaze features design elements that tie it to the Original Reebok Kamikaze and the Kamikaze II. However the cushioning has been updated with a unique Hexalite midsole for a more comfortable ride than could be offered back in the day. An oversized Reebok ‘R’ logo on the tongue seems to be designed for popping out from under a pair of jeans. The Carbon/Steel/White/Feather Blue colorway, as well as the Black/Tin Grey/Excellent Red, feature soft leather and well placed patent details to help make this shoe one of the most talked about of the summer.

With the X-Games taking over Los Angeles this weekend, we’ve seen a lot of special releases coming from DC Shoes. To go along with the Travis Pastrana and Robbie Maddison editions we’ve seen earlier this week, DC brings another collaboration just in time for the X-Games 17 action to begin.
For this version of the DC Shoes Versaflex, DC has teamed up with the folks from Nitro Circus. Nitro Circus, also sponsors of many X-Games athletes, has their lightning bomb logo printed across the background of the DC logo on the side panel. The Black and Grey base of the colorway is accented in the Red, White and Blue of the Nitro Circus colors. On the function side of things, an ImpactFX midsole and full length air bag provide cushioning, as the key fex grooves of the outsole make the Versaflex capable of taking on just about any sport you can dream up.

Nemanja Vidic of Manchester United holds the trophy after a 4-0 victory over the MLS All-Stars.
words // Nick Engvall
As if American soccer fans needed more proof that we’re behind the curve when it comes to talented soccer players, the MLS All-Stars lost a disheartening 4-0 match against Manchester United on Wednesday. The MLS squad put together a few decent runs in the first 20 minutes of the match, but a goal from Anderson, followed by Park Ji-Sung just before halftime, was only the beginning of the downfall.
Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck added goals in the second half to make the final 4-0, Manchester United. Adding another blow to the soccer fans of the nation, after the tough loss in the Women’s World Cup.
It leaves the question for many as to why the MLS All-Star game even features an international team. What our your thoughts?

Thierry Henry wearing PUMA soccer cleats.
Dimitar Berbatov gets a little pushy in his adidas soccer cleats.
Patrice Evra controls the ball wearing Nike soccer cleats.
David Beckham was equipped with some gold adidas soccer boots with the names of his children stitched in.
Park Ji-Sung controls the ball with his Nike soccer boots on his way to a goal.
Rio Ferdinand gets some air in the Nike Total90 Laser.
Kyle Beckerman makes a play in his Nike cleats.

As a former college athlete, running was always integrated into my strength and conditioning programs. But when choosing running shoes, I went more for style than comfort and technology. After graduating in May, I have had the opportunity to work closely with the running category at Eastbay and have begun running more for pleasure while still possessing my competitive ways. Training for 5ks used to seem like a challenge, but after recently signing up for my first marathon in December, a 5k is something I can enjoy on my “easy” training days.
I am a fairly efficient runner and have always gravitated towards a lightweight running shoe. Nikes, more specifically the LunarGlide, have always been my shoes of choice, but ever since I tested out the Asics Gel-Blur33, I will never look back.
From the day I opened my Asics shoe box, I knew we were going to be the perfect match. The bright magenta color I chose perfectly emulated my personality, while the sleek design tells others that I am not only on the roads for fun, but to accomplish my goal: 26.2 miles.
The cushioning of the Asics Gel Blur-33 keeps me looking forward to my runs, no matter how long they may be. I have dreaded my hour-long runs, but due to the cushioning the shoe has to offer, neither my feet nor my 33 joints have suffered. For a lightweight performance shoe, the Asics Gel Blur-33 has impressed me with the cushioning and support that it offers. After years of playing sports, my knees need all the shock absorption they can get, and the Asics make me feel like I am running on clouds.
The ComforDry™ sockliner provides a snug fit that prevents your foot from slipping and has helped reduce the amount of moisture retained in the shoe. While the sockliner does a great job of keeping my feet dry, the first few runs in the Asics Gel Blur-33 were a little discomforting because of the sockliner. It took about 25-30 miles to loosen up and break in to the point of complete comfort. I am the type of runner who prefers a little more room to wriggle, but if you have the patience that I did to break the shoe in, you will love it more than you could have imagined.
Overall, I would rate this shoe an A-. I am constantly raving about the ability to take full advantage of the 7.9 ounces while not forfeiting the cushioning. The sockliner was originally a bit snug for my liking, but after breaking it in I am confident we will cross the finish line together in December in style and in comfort. After always being swayed towards the Nike Swoosh, I can confidently say I will never look back.
