One of the most distinguishable traits of a sneaker is its tread pattern. Especially when it comes to Nike shoes, you can probably instantly remember the shapes and curves of the only part of the shoe that you cannot see when wearing. Ironic, but think about some of the popular silhouettes, and Air Max 90, an Air Force 1, or anything with the new Diamondflex design like the Trainer 1.
However, what about some of the other genres, such as Nike 6.0, Nike SB, Nike cleats, are they as easily recognizable? Today’s Eastbay Photo of the Week might test how broad your range of knowledge is when it comes to kicks. This upcoming colorway will arrive at Eastbay in the coming weeks but is its multi-surface outsole one you can name?

The mid-nineties for many of us who were old enough to enjoy it, was one of the greatest eras for sneakers. Aside from the obvious basketball shoes that have since “become legendary,” there was the growth of Nike Training and the emergence of the incredible line of Ken Griffey Jr shoes. In the coming weeks, Nike will bring back one of the most memorable shoes to ever be worn on a baseball diamond which means that this week’s Eastbay Memory Lane gives us a chance to revisit a classic.
The “Emerald” Nike Air Griffey Max has yet be released in retro form since it released back in the mid-nineties. Back then, there weren’t many colors on the ball field that were outside of the standard black, white, red and blue. The Air Griffey Max became one of the first to step outside the metaphorical batter’s box of baseball cleat colors, and in large part because of that, The Kid’s signature shoes are still a popular model today.
The unique thing about the Emerald colorway of the Air Griffey Max, aside from it being never released as a retro, is the fact that Junior and Seattle Mariners were also going through a transition in their jersey colors. The change from the Royal Blue and Yellow Mariners jerseys to the Navy and Teal was the beginning of alternate jerseys, which for Junior meant that his Emerald Air Griffey Max was the perfect match for the young and exciting team in Seattle with a whole new look.

There is little room for debate that Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona, and the Argentina national team, is one of, if not the best player in the history of the game. Outside of his famous footwork on the pitch, he’s also been the face of adidas Soccer, wearing some of the most sought after soccer cleats to be created in recent years.
With the upcoming Copa América tournament being hosted by Argentina, adidas and Messi will be once again bringing out a creative version of the F50 adiZero. The Electricity based colorway, that is accented by Infrared and Sharp Purple Anodized details, is sure to stand out on the field as Messi looks to lead the Argentinian team in front of his home crowd to their 15th Copa América title, and their first since 1993. Also on the line, is bragging rights, as their neighboring competitors from Uruguay also have 14 Copa América titles. Although Messi and Argentina are one of the clear favorites, the competition is sure to be tough.
Although the tournament won’t begin until July 2nd, you can pre-order the Electricity colorway of the adidas F50 adiZero that Leo Messi will wear, along with other new colorways now.

Last week Nike Basketball officially unveiled the next generation of their basketball shoes with the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011. Building on the success of the original Nike Zoom Hyperfuse, which has received great reviews in both the low-cut version, and the mid-cut version, the 2011 has both high expectations and a great base to start from.
The Nike Zoom Hyperfuse will likely be the go to shoe for both Los Angeles Clippers dunk expert Blake Griffin, and Boston Celtics floor general Rajon Rondo. With that in mind, Nike got the two superstars together for a creative photo shoot to help unveil the latest version of the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse. Equipped with Nike Basketball equipment and the new Hyperfuse 2011, the photos speak for themselves.
Look for these to be come available in the coming weeks at Eastbay.

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez celebrates wearing Nike Tiempo cleats.
words // Nick Engvall
For the United States it was Clint Dempsey and for Mexico it was Chicharito followed by Aldo De Negris, that bring the two teams into the final match of the 2011 Gold Cup. The meeting will be the third consecutive time that Mexico and the United States will meet to decide the winner. The United States has won 4 of the 10 Gold Cup titles, while Mexico has won 5, including a 5-0 embarrassment of the United States in 2009.
With tomorrow’s final in Pasadena, California, at the Rose Bowl, the United States will have a slight home team advantage, if they are lucky. Though their performance hasn’t been up to par with expectations, they have somehow found a way to make it to the final match. For Mexico, a slightly better team by most opinions and easily the better scoring of the two, getting into the heads of the US defense will be the challenge. The final match is set for Saturday at 6PM PST.
Check out the Soccer Watch coverage from their previous matches, as well as some MLS action, thanks to Yahoo.
